Environmental Fitness

Research from multiple disciplines demonstrates how vital our environments are to our physical, mental, psychological, and emotional wellness. Environmental fitness is determined by how well our immediate surroundings–our homes, offices, neighborhoods, etc.–fit our most basic needs as human beings.

Hallmarks of a Fit Environment

  • Supports a healthy nervous system.
  • Immediate sights, sounds, textures, and smells are mostly those that are also present in natural environments.
  • Is psychologically and emotionally restorative.
  • Provides a sense of safety and security.


The purpose of our Environmental Fitness Assessment is to look for ways in which the physical environment of a facility (e.g., office building, training center, restaurant) might be most effectively impacted in order to improve the health of that environment for all who spend time there.
