Cathryn Lokey, Ed.S – Educational Psychologist, Speaker, Consultant
After receiving her Masters Degree in Counseling and Human Systems and her Specialist Degree in Education, Cathryn followed her heart and love of children into a career in school counseling. She worked for 12 years as a school counselor at a community-run charter school in north Florida where she designed a unique guidance and counseling program based on “all the things [she] had ever heard anyone say they wish they had been taught when they were a kid.” While investigating how to support, as efficiently and effectively as possible, the multiple social-emotional and behavioral issues that they were witnessing in the students, Cathryn came across a body of research that would change the course of her career: the impacts of mindfulness practices. She began teaching mindfulness practices to the children, and was thrilled by the results she, the other teachers, and parents witnessed in the students. She became obsessed with the interconnectedness of wellness, optimal learning conditions, and mindfulness. Cathryn decided to go back to Florida State University to get an additional degree in Educational Psychology. Since then, she has consulted for multiple organizations in the fields of education, incarceration, and LGBTQIA advocacy. Cathryn started the company Lo-Key Learning to provide services and resources that can improve lives through mindfulness, wellness, and healthy communication.
